Hugs and Kisses Bitches! XOVersa, an indie pop punk band out of a town known for skydiving and motocross, formed 4, maybe 5 years ago by a group of friends. The core members, Josh C (vocals), Ryan (guitar), and Josh G (drummer), and latest edition Kevin (bass) have been doing it their way since they started.

After rising and falling from local stardom they went to try to record an album with a studio owner who promised them the world but ended up watching the studio owner run away with all their money. They went back to their DIY roots and recorded the album themselves despite the setback.

They somehow met up with New Agenda Records and got their full length released under the label and have now toured with Along Way Home and present day Call The Cops. After arriving home from touring they found that all the local venues they used to play have closed and the scene has changed even more to fit a cookie cutter style that they didn’t want to fit into.

They have been tirelessly working to do what they want, and all they want is to tour and sleep in the can and bring awesome music to anyone craving originality. Their path has been unclear and after losing 10k to the theiving studio owner and the cost of touring has put them more in debt they are starting over and recording again and hoping to get on tour in the near future.

Lets Keep On Moving! Sky Harbor is fun, fresh PowerPop & Pop Punk. The people that make up the band are all So Cal natives but their backgrounds all vary significantly. I found them when they were in studio for DJ Rossstar, on the only day I wasn’t there! But I did watch the episode after, checked out their MySpace and decided these guys were worth having a few people read about them.

They’re still a young band and have had trouble creating a solid line up but they’ve finally gotten their act together and just got out a new demo track which you can check on their MySpace. Currently, the guys are out trying to perk up So Cal ears with some live performances and plan to start work on their full EP in October.

They are actually going to play at The Epicentre in San Diego tonite and A Chain Reaction on the 20th.

In simplest terms- these guys sound good, they’ve got more stuff coming soon so keep your ears open, and if you’re in the Southern California area, make a point of seeing them live, the best test of a band!

Normal Like You.  Where do I begin?  I’ve been a big fan of this band for years. YEARS I tell you.  Before I began writing this, I sat around for way too long trying to figure out the best way of presenting them to you. It’s been a difficult task.  Do I post the video of my favorite NLY song “Addicted to Faith” which is likely to have you by the nuts from the second you hit play, or do I play their newest song “We Are the Rock” which deserves a term I promised myself I’d never use….”OMFG”.  After playing each over and over for nearly an hour, trying to become the readers’ ears, I had to go with the video for the sole purpose of it being more aesthetically pleasing to the blog.  I’m confident in my decision.  ”Addicted to Faith” is a NLY classic and one of the biggest hits among fans.  It’s no accident that it’s their only music video, atleast that I’m aware of.

OMFG!  I just turned on “We Are the Rock” again to tune out our producer Nate, who’s watching the brain-cell-depleting shit show, “Degrassi”.  Holy fuck.  This song is fucking awesome.  I am not going to edit the post to replace the vid with the song so I AM GOING TO TRUST THAT YOU WILL GO TO THE NORMAL LIKE YOU MYSPACE and LISTEN TO IT. Please, it will help me sleep better.

After falling in love with their tunes you can read more about this unsigned, NorCal based band on their official website which I will now plagiarize to make my closing sentence better.

“Normal Like You is that tailgating, halftime show, roller-skating rink, extracurricular activity that you just can’t get enough of. Love ‘em or hate ‘em, this ride is gaining speed and certainly won’t be stopped anytime soon”.

Couldn’t have said it any better.

Ok, well maybe this…

“Ladies and gentlemen, fasten your seatbelts and return your tray tables to their full upright position. Prepare for a musical ride more promising than a blanket and a bag of peanuts”.

Guess that should’ve been at the beginning.  Shut up.

xoxo-Cheryl

Sorry we haven’t done any posting in the past week! We have been busy working on our concert on the 14th.

We got a couple submissions for My Lady 4 over the past few days, so I decided to check it out. I go to their Myspace, press play, and first track I got was “…Sometimes the Bear Eats You”. After listening to the intro I was already hooked enough to scoll past their music player to get a closer look.  I got the low-down about their debut album as well as a digital copy and I have to say, I knew they were blog-worthy. The album is Part 1 of a 2 part concept story-line about a Gatekeeper.  You can definitely feel the story develop just in the tone of the songs all without even knowing any of the back story.

The album proves the musical diversity and capabilities of the band making you wonder if its even the same vocalist from beginning to end at times (not just because Jake of New Medicine sings in the afore mentioned track). They each are relatively unknown artists and have fought their way into playing with some great names in the alternative and punk rock scene.  The album hits hard, then slows down and builds back up. My personal favorites were the first and last tracks. Track 1, “And Suddenly, I’m Somebody” is on their Myspace for you guys to hear and I’ve included “Your Idea of a Good Time” in this post. I wasn’t a big fan of the screaming, (never been a personal preference) but the song is damn near amazing.

Looking forward to a nonconcept album from these fellas and just a little more focus on developing those catchy chorus’ that make a song “IT” and these guys will no doubtebly exist in every scene kids iPhone, iPod, and heart….if there’s even a difference between the three.

Welcome to our first #MusicMonday post of “Who the Fuck are These Guys!?”,  also known as our second blog post ever!  Meet Entice. We must first thank @caylamarie & @_Daniel_Costa for turning us onto these fellas.  They are yet again, another So Cal band (we swear we aren’t choosing geographical favorites). Now, we haven’t seen them live, but our crystal ball says there’s got to be some major booty shakin’ taking place at live shows during the above song “Who’s Got Your Money”.  These guys are rad and their album “Let The Fire Come” has definitely been added to the ipod. If you wanna show the guys some love follow em on twitter- @ENTICEtheband

Fan submissions have all been awesome, keep sending ‘em, check our info at the top for how to submit, send it with a youtube video so we can embed a track! Enjoy!

We stumbled upon the guys of Sleep District at “So Cal Rock Revolution” back in May.  We must say, this was one of the best accidents we’ve had in awhile and definitely a one-up from the ones our producer Nate has on his sheets nightly. As we desperately tried to find something to do while waiting for headliners, Story of the Year to take the stage at this absurd, shit-show of a festival, we were summoned by the angelic vocals of Sleep District frontman, Jon Esposito.  Not only were we wondering how the hell these amazing musicians found this crap fest, we were also wondering how the hell they didn’t have a HUGE following.  We knew right away that a DJ Rossstar visit was due.  A month later, we were reunited with the band where we would come to find they were only months into being a band.  We knew we struck gold and they, once again, blew our brains out with the one of the cleanest acoustic performances we’ve seen on the show to date.  We JUST found this video of the guys performing “Dallas”, a song that only exists to the public via, well, this video.  It’s orgasmic.  A term we’re pretty much sure they didn’t imagine would describe this meaningful ballad, but orgasmically meaningful it is. Enjoy and please show these guys some fucking love. Even if you don’t make the commitment of following, Tweet these guys @sleepdistrict and tell them you’re atleast close to stalking status.  We’re definitely excited to see what’s in store for Sleep District, but probably more excited to brag that we found them first.

-Cheryl

*UPDATE*

Sleep District broke up recently, while this is a sad event we look forward to each of the talented members future independent endeavors and wish each of them the best of luck! Their MySpace is still active and has several tracks by them, and we have their artist page on TPRS.com with some acoustic tracks and the DJ Rossstar episode they were the in studio guest on.
